New Release, V8.60

Version 8.60, the newest version of the EMPRESS RDBMS, is soon to be released in April 2000. V8.60 features exceptional performance enhancements, powerful new utilities, and effective solutions to solve common Web development dilemmas.

Users will soon benefit from even faster access to data with replication and data streaming. Via replication, alternate data access sources exist to retrieve the same piece of data resulting in an overall speed up in data retrieval. Data streaming is a technique for transferring data in a steady and continuous stream. Particularly useful for large multimedia files, data streaming speeds the display of data allowing users to view the data even before the entire file has been received.

Asynchronous processing transmits data intermittently rather than in a steady data stream. This gives the client the opportunity to access portions of data in fixed intervals or perform other processes even before the server finishes transmitting all the data.

The addition of a pre-spawn server and pre-open server reduces the server response time to a client. A pre-spawn server can automatically initiate an extra server daemon in preparation for a client connection. And a pre-opened server can be set to open a database or table.

Perpetual ComView

A company's corporate voice and data network is its lifeline. Control over the vast flow of information is crucial to a company's survival in the world of business. The challenge facing telecommunications managers: how to harness the incessant flow of information and produce statistical analysis which facilitates decision making pertaining to the corporate network management and expansion. ComView, a network device developed by CSS Telemanagement, answers the need for real-time, Web-based data and network management.

ComView is an intelligent Web server designed to allow corporations to remotely and centrally manage their communications equipment locally or globally. This stand-alone, multi-user device uniquely integrates Internet and voice network management technology, with the database management technology of the Empress Web Database Toolkit.

"I have worked closely with Empress Technical Services throughout ComView's development to most effectively integrate EMPRESS. I found the team to be very knowledgeable and I am impressed by their responsiveness and dedication to our specific needs," comments Ken Kong, Project Manager.

Each ComView unit functions as a special microprocessor based computer used to quickly access real-time data stored in the EMPRESS RDBMS on QNX. The small, compact database engine can be used for the collection of data streams, data analysis in real-time, and for the storage and transmission of data.
