EMPRESS SOFTWARE INC. ANNOUNCES EMPRESS DATAWEB April 17, 1996 -- Empress Software Inc. announces the release of EMPRESS DataWEB(TM). EMPRESS DataWEB(TM) is the first complete application development environment designed for HYPERMEDIA Web Data Management (HWDM). EMPRESS DataWEB(TM) allows users to easily and rapidly build Web-based applications utilizing the efficient and secure data storage and management capabilities of the EMPRESS RDBMS. Empress DataWEB(TM) will be available on CD-ROM for HP-UX, IBM-AIX, SGI Irix, SUN Solaris, SCO Open Server 5, Solaris x86 and Linux. The World Wide Web is a graphically oriented environment and Empress' inherent ability to easily store and manipulate multimedia data types (i.e., images, video, sound, etc.) makes Empress a natural choice for the Internet. Applications built using EMPRESS DataWEB(TM) can be used as a public Internet application or an enterprise Intranet application. Empress will ship Empress DataWEB(TM) on May 1, 1996. Special introductory pricing begins at $997 (US$), for the four-user PC UNIX version. At the core of EMPRESS DataWEB(TM) resides EMPRESS HYPERMEDIA(TM), the Empress Web HTML Toolkit. Applications built using EMPRESS HYPERMEDIA(TM) can dynamically transfer data from an EMPRESS database into hypertext templets, or transfer them as binary objects to state-of-the-art multimedia and hypermedia applications.
